Six months ago, the Phoenixville Borough Council passed a resolution to preserve the Community Garden as it exists today. Another part of that discussion that got full support of Council was that all meetings with the Borough included, were to be public with the exception of meetings that were about executive decisions that could be made by Borough staff. Enter the latest round of meetings. St. Johns was not invited and members of the Community Garden Board were not invited. There was no discussion as to the current plans for subsidized housing in the North Side and how the community garden fits in with that. Pennrose Properties, HACC, Jean Krack, and Henry Wagner discussed the plan and handed it to the Community Garden and said "take it or you are gone." The plan is the same as the plan rejected 6 months ago.
Why would the Borough staff and Council President work behind closed doors to work against a non profit community organization that Council voted unanimously in favor of? Isn't Mr. Wagner's wife a member of that church also? Didn't we have this same "back room dealing" situation last election when a Council President was up for reelection?
