Like Hef goes through women

You may remember Shannon McDonald from her fine work last week as the news editor of the Phoenix. She is no longer there and I am sure she has moved on the managing editor of the NY Times of the Washington Post. Filling those rather large shoes is now Leann Pettit. The article outlining her qualifications are not online so I will print them here.

New editor at The Phoenix

THE PHOENIX STAFF REPORT

editor@PhoenixvilleNews.com

PHOENIXVILLE — As a recent graduate from Cedar Crest College, in Allentown, PA,Leann Pettit came to The Phoenix originally as an advertising representative. After getting to know Phoenixville and the community I was put in the newsroom as the editor.

At Cedar Crest College, she was the news editor and the advertising manager for The Crestiad, the award-winning, student run weekly newspaper. She spent two and a half years as news editor for The Crestiad, which was her first love in journalism. In her two years as news editor, I took the section from a two page section to a six page section, focusing on Cedar Crest news, both the good and the bad.

During Leann’s senior year, she stepped in as advertising manager when the newspaper didn’t have one.

During her time at Cedar Crest, I covered the new College president leaving after four months and the hiring of a new president for the College.

She grew up in Exeter Township, graduating from Exeter Township High School. During her senior year at Exeter she interned at Berks-Mont Newspapers, in Boyertown, another Journal Register Company newspaper.

As editor, Leann hopes to get to know the community, the businesses, but also the people, who are the heart of Phoenixville both with The Phoenix but also on a personal level as she learns the community,.

As The Phoenix transitions to a weekly publication, Leann’s hope to to give the community the newspaper they want with the news they want to read and that is relevant to them.

This is very sad. I hope there will be more news about the politics/happening of meetings, etc., since they affect us all. In my opinion, since Skip passed away there is nothing of interest in the paper other than public interest stories. This is a sad state of affairs. There are other weekly papers around ie Main Line Times, Suburban Times, etc that are weekly, but do manage to inform the public with more thorough news stories. Hopefully, the Phoenix will be able to accomplish this as well. I don't think anyone from the paper has attended any Council, Zoning or Planning Meetings. These are important meetings, and need to be covered - especially if the items are controversial.

I don't know if it's just my screen, but the white type on the light background is almost unreadable. Is it just me?

Those 14 year old editors are just so darn undependable. I imagine that cheer leader camp was just going to interfere too much with doing the steller job we all expected. And, I also liked the new editors credentials shown on this blog. Impossible to read you say.....doesn't matter. She won't be here beyond 90 days either.

This is Joe Rooney. I am a stringer for the Phoenix and have covered meetings since Skip's passing. Since the paper has been in flux the past two months, and since I'm not employed by the Phoenix, my contributions have been very few. I can only hope that the new editor allows me the same freedom of contribution that Nick Danna did during his time as editor. If I'm allowed to cover what I wish I know readers of this blog will come to know and respect my writing. I have political contacts, and hope very much to fill the informative void left by Skip. Let's hope for the best with the Weekly, and trust I'll do my best.

As you once said: "Don’t set out to raze all shrines—you’ll frighten men. Enshrine mediocrity, and the shrines are razed."

How's it working out, Mr. E. M. Toohey?

interesting that this story is not available for comment on the Phoenix site... also, you have to watch Cassidy's creepy video preceeded by pro wrestlin clips. You can't convince me that this little man doesn't thrive on controversy.

By going to weekly publication, The Phoenix has probably now limited itself to not more than four new editors per month.
