Four Phila.-area colleges fail financial test

Yesterday's Inquirer had an article on the US Dept. of Educations assessment of the financial health of US Colleges and found that 4 colleges in the SE Pa area are in a bit of trouble. Among them . . . . . . Valley Forge Christian College.

Harcum, a junior college in Bryn Mawr; Lutheran Theological Seminary at Philadelphia; and Valley Forge Christian College in Phoenixville also made the list.

Failing the test can be an indicator that a college is in danger of closing, the Chronicle said, although officials from Harcum, Rosemont, and Lutheran Theological all said yesterday they were on the rebound and not facing that possibility. Valley Forge officials did not return calls for comment.

I guess an article dealing with your ultimate demise may not warrant a call back to the reporter.

Sounds like a great opportunity to buy some land for a library. Maybe even get Charlestown Township to kick in a few dollars.

I attend VFCC and our president sent out an email explaining why the college received those results. It's not nearly "in danger" of closing, so you'll have to find somewhere else to build your library. So sorry...

It appears that the issue is cash reserves vs debt vs enrollment.
