By the authority of the King

This isn't a "the Phoenix can't get a story right" post but I would like to start with a little suggestion. This goes back quite a ways. Can a reporter actually ask someone in the audience or on the street for a comment to print in the paper? Can we get a sense of what the feeling was for someone that was there for the event which they are writing about. I thought the following article was good. But it relies on the Borough Manager, Barry Cassidy (not an authority member but its ED) and a Councilman. That means that only one actual taxpayer was quoted in the article and more employees that have no equitable stake in the action are able to mold the story.

Parking Authority and Borough discuss agreement

from the article:

Some public concern has been expressed about the Borough allowing the new Parking Authority to own the prime downtown real estate at the cost of only $1, suggesting the Prospect Street land asset could be used in a more profitable manner.

I would like to hear a comment or two from someone that has an opinion on this other than a paid Borough employee.

Perhaps the most convoluted statement was this one.

Parking Authority board member Barry Cassidy said, "We are trying to do this without tax dollars. Anything that prevents us [the Parking Authority] from getting a loan like putting deed restrictions on the property—which will diminish the value—will make our task more difficult and we may be forced to ask council to lend us money out of the general fund to get started."

So if you don't give us a limitless title for this free property, we may be forced to ask for the extra extortion payment in cash because we are entitled to it. Does it really matter what anyone thinks about this issue anymore? Does it matter that Barry Cassidy and Jean Krack are running wild? Does it really matter that most of Council is clueless to the fact that public opinion is ignored? This may be the worse Council I have ever seen. Thank god 2 are leaving. Let's hope that we can keep a few more of the "sheep in waiting" AKA Dana Dugan out in the next election.
