Pissing Away Again in Margaritaville

Posted by Mr. Ellsworth Toohey

I read the comments to the Creep Records post. I think it is funny that his opinion of the downtown doesn't count for much if his business is doing bad (though he never said the business was in trouble). I appears that is the consensus when we talk about the downtown. If you comment negatively, you are met with a "It is better than 1987". This last decade is the lost decade. We squandered so many opportunities. We followed PPG into the ground and with it 10 years of hoping for an actual employer moving into the Borough (a real employer). When interest rates were low ans anyone could get financing, we watched and supported this company sit on its hands (when the hand wasn't extended for a hand out). We made half assed attempts to build a coalition for the SVM or any public transportation. We allowed the Councils agenda to be highjacked by the business district that they were oblivious to the facts that the parks and infrastructure were failing. We are told that in order to be a town that is worth anything, we need to have a strong main street. I grow weary of the idea.

We are still a nice little community but man, we just pissed a bunch of years away.

Ohhhh! Someone struck a nerve with the Foohey. Now you're getting testy. It must be the old age, that would explain he "pissing away". Pissy, pissy, pissy!

Let me think for a minute: Tyler closes, Spiedie closes and Creep is unhappy. On the other hand: Cookie place opens, Majolica reinvests in Pville, Bike Barn opening, Bead place opening, Daddy Mimms opening, Creole Pizza opening, Custom Tile opening, and Custom Creations opening. I think its a little early to be pulling the plug. But maybe you know something we all don't know?

I would also venture to guess that this is business as usual for any downtown district (businesses opening and closing). Check the record.
