Do we now consider his decisions and opinions on Council floor to be representative of the Representative he works for? He has had a short history of supporting projects that don't really have the support of his constituents (but supported by his friends). And when he goes on Council floor and blasts people that write blog postings and criticize thing that are wrong with the Borough, will he consider that it is bloggers like myself that stepped over party lines to support Paul Drucker? "Because you're mine, I walk the line."

PHOENIXVILLE — Rep. Paul Drucker (D-157) has named Phoenixville Borough Council member Mike Speck (D-East) to staff his constituent relations office in Audubon. The move was formally announced Saturday at the opening of that office in the Audubon Village Shopping Center on Egypt Road. “We want to be very aggressive in our constituent outreach in this portion of the District,” Drucker said, “and we’re delighted to have Mike helping us here.” The admiration was mutual. “During Paul’s campaign,” Speck said, “I became aware of his commitment and dedication to outreach. I’m pleased that he accepted me for the position. [As a council member] I’ve worked with my own constituents in Phoenixville, but I’m new to this job, and I’m lucky to be able to work with a good team. We’ll be working closely together.” That team includes Drucker’s chief of staff Maria Micolucci, Harrisburg legislative assistant Cynthia Clory, and Anne Marie Brazunas, constituent relations director at a second District office in Wayne, at The Woods office campus at Swedesford and Old Eagle School Roads. All staff were present with Speck for the Audubon opening. Speck’s introduction to his new responsibilities included an intensive three-day briefing in Harrisburg on constituent relations, organized by the House Democratic Caucus, Speck said. But that session was after Speck announced his departure from a 23-year career working with troubled youth at St. Gabriel’s Hall. He has served in a variety of capacities there, as Communication Center coordinator, as residential manager for the pre-adolescent unit, and as a supervisor and acting director of the program for first-time offenders. “That was definitely hard,” Speck said, “after so many years there working with troubled youth.” Speck has been a resident of the Borough for nearly as long as his career at St. Gabriel’s. He was elected to his Council seat in 2007, was a member of the Youth Aid Panel, and is an active a member of the American Legion and Kiwanis. He holds a B.A. in criminal justice and sociology from LaSalle University, and served with the Marine Corps for six years. |
