Nepal 'Buddha Boy' returns to jungle
I found this story a bit of a hoot. It got me thinking about the coming of saviors from all religions and what they will ultimately face when they come to shake things up. This 18 year old kid is the reincarnation of Siddhartha Gautama or you may know him by his street name, Buddha. He has come back to earth, Nepal specifically, and he is meditating and performing miracles. Since we are in a culture of 24 hour news cycle's, I find out about the savior of the most sacred Easter Philosophy while eating Cornflakes (manufactured 1000 miles away and probably 6 months ago) and drinking Starbucks House Blend (beans from the far corners of the world) and toggling through Perez Hilton and Times of London web pages. Just like the old days.
Thank God (or Buddha) that AFP has brought word that a Savior is on earth and that he has come to save us from rampant materialism. Honey toss the Starbucks and Hilfiger sweaters, we are getting back to the basics. I am wondering if this is how it is going to be as these as the second shift comes in (I don't even know how to refer them all . . . .second comers?). Will the next Jesus be on the cover of People as the "Sexiest Man Alive"? Will pictures be snapped of this Buddha getting out of a car, with his robes, and .. . . . you know . . . . the sacred idol hanging out? What are these guys going to be put through? Cut apocolyptic, end of days religions out of it because most of us are just going to be living in our own little hell while the righteous are off playing canasta with St. Peter. Think of how bad the suffering of Christ on the cross. Terrible. Now make his successor stand beside Bono and Sting for a press conference about the starving around the world. Brutal.
Enough of the rant. Here is the line the set me off.
On Friday, visitors to the jungle site put money into collection boxes, though Thing declined to say how much had been collected.
"Many people say we're just doing this for the money, but we have expenses for volunteers, food, security and maintenance," he said.
"After he has gone back into the jungle, we will make our accounts public."
